Everyone learnt how to kayak forwards and backwards6th July 2010
Messing about in boats at Mepal Outdoor Centre was a wonderful way for Year 6 to mark their last Dame Bradbury's school trip.
The children learnt how to kayak forwards and backwards and to "do a 360" with just one sweep of the paddle. They discovered just how unstable a kayak is, especially when standing up, and got lots of practice at emptying a boat full of water.
Year 6 also had a go at sailing an 'Opi'. After a brief lesson in steering, they first practised these skills by paddling and steering the boat without the sail and playing a ball game at the same time. They were then let loose with the sails up too, and had to tack round buoys.
"Everyone learnt lots of new skills and enjoyed each other's company on the very last trip for Year 6," said form teacher Mrs Bullen-Smith.
