Members of Green Club, with Mr Domb and the Green Flag9th July 2010
Dame B's is celebrating a double dose of environmental excellence, following a presentation of two major awards by Mr Malcolm Domb, Branch Manager of Waitrose in Saffron Walden.
Mr Domb presented the School with a Royal Horticultural Society Level 3 ‘Campaign for School Gardening’ certificate, and with a coveted Green Flag, the top award in the Government’s Eco-Schools programme.
Waitrose is the official national supporter of the RHS’ Campaign for School Gardening. There are five levels to achieve, so the School has two more to go.

"These awards reflect our significant commitment to gardening and the environment, and we are especially thrilled to have achieved our Green Flag in only two years," says Assistant Head Lucy Brown, who leads the School’s sustainability programme.
"Gardening is a timetabled activity, with a dedicated teacher, and we have an after-school Green Club. The School has an environmental garden and dipping pond, and a teaching garden, both funded by the PTA."
The RHS certificate acknowledges "that the School mentions the garden in its development plan, that staff and pupils are involved in gardening activities and that they participate in the environmentally friendly development of the garden". The Green Flag is awarded "for continued excellence in improving the environmental performance of the school and wider community".
