Communications and language

Talking, listening, understanding – these are fundamental skills for all human beings. So our children are encouraged to talk (and listen and understand) a lot.

In lessons, they might act out a story or explore how other people might react in a role-play. In circle time, there are opportunities to share ideas and opinions. Reading areas in the classrooms invite them to discover and discuss favourite books with their friends.

Outside, there are comfortable spaces where they can retreat for a chat, with a beach hut, den and benches in the early years playground and ‘the willow’ in the large playground inviting them to stop for a moment and put thoughts into words.

It all helps them to build their vocabularies and their confidence – and although they may not realise it, they’re learning how to concentrate, analyse and express themselves clearly and fluently at the same time.
